Welcome to www.jan-buchholz.de
My name is Jan Buchholz and I graduated in the field of computer science at the RWTH Aachen University in March of 2005. On this website, you can find information about myself, my personal development, and some of my projects. Besides my resume, I have also compiled a couple of interesting websites in relation to my personal interests.
Additionally, I am going to document my next steps in the world of IT here. Important facts, events, and brief field reports will be published in the following section.

Keeping up with new developments in the fast-moving field of
software engineering is hard to do---at best.
There is a constant discussion of new trends, paradigms, and technical terms in professional articles,
blogs, and on forums. This is why I was glad to come across the 2 websites
DZone and InfoQ.
These internet portals collect material of interest to software engineers. The presented articles and video presentations can be voted for
and commented on by the readers. Of course they also provide RSS feeds.

I am currently looking into the world of Android,
Google's
open source operating system for
smartphones. Beside a great amount of
available applications, well-documented
APIs are ready for interested
developers. This system looks like a good reason for me to refresh my knowledge of Java.

An update that was overdue: since January of 2006, I am working as an application developer for
Ableton Inc. in Berlin. At this company, I work on
Live, an audio- and MIDI-
sequencer. This application has won several
awards in the course of the last years. I am also available now on Xing (OpenBC).

Unfortunately, coJIVE
was not chosen to be one of the 22 nomminees fo the
Top Talent Awards. The jury, however, awarded the system with the TTA 05 Quality Seal - this seal was only
given to the 42 most innovative and creative projects out of a total of 411 entries.

Today I received confirmation that coJIVE - the software system I created for my diploma thesis - was accepted
as a contribution for this year's
Europrix Multimedia Top Talent Award. For this contest, I have created a video (220MB,
25MB, or
17MB),
which presents the system and describes its functions. Whether or not we will win one of the awards
remains to be seen, of course.
